Dr. Richmond S. McCoy is a nationally recognized real estate executive with over 30 years of diverse real estate transaction-development and asset management experience. He has consummated more than $6 billion in transactions and operates internationally. Richmond has invested in housing, office, retail and hospitality. Richmond is leading UrbanAmerica’s efforts as part of the general partnership in the Master Planned city of Finningley in Durban, South Africa. It is a vast project with over 66 thousand acres and is valued at over 9 billion US dollars upon completion.


Richmond McCoy is the President & CEO of UrbanAmerica Advisors and UrbanAmerica Principals III. As affiliated entities, UrbanAmerica Advisors and UrbanAmerica Principals III (collectively “UrbanAmerica”) are the successor entities to UrbanAmerica, LP, a minority controlled real estate investment advisor. Launched in 1998, the company currently has $700 million in real estate assets under management and has raised 780 million dollars in institutional capital within the last 16 years. UrbanAmerica specializes in assets located in urban centers, as well as properties located in top metro areas nationwide. Most recently UrbanAmerica Advisors formed a partnership with Renaissance Downtowns in the $2 Billion Dollar Master Plan Development of downtown Hempstead, NY, where they have attained Master Developer designation from the city. UrbanAmerica was founded in 1998 as one of the first real estate companies to focus on acquiring and developing commercial real estate in communities of diversity in major metropolitan markets nationally on behalf of the country’s leading institutional investors. As a result of concentrating its efforts on urban markets, the company has acquired over $2 billion of real estate while providing market rate returns for its investors and creating more than 27,000 jobs for residents of low-income communities in which it has invested. UrbanAmerica’s notable list of investors includes the nation’s largest public and private pension funds and the top banks and insurance companies. Mr. McCoy has formed partnerships throughout his career with many of the leading national real estate companies including the Fisher Brothers of New York City, Jones Lang LaSalle of Chicago, and Behringer Harvard of Dallas. The company’s current focus includes (NMTC) New Market Tax Credits, HUD Section 3, and development management of master planned communities.


Prior to assuming leadership at UrbanAmerica LP, McCoy was Founding Partner and Principal of three other firms specializing in real estate brokerage, asset management and development. Mr. McCoy has forged many ongoing partnerships with numerous faith-based and community development organizations nationwide. Mr. McCoy has led efforts in working with the US Treasury in the CDFI Fund to deploy $267 Million dollars’ worth of tax credits within the last 8 years. Mr. McCoy is a frequent expert panelist for the public and private pension fund industry. He is also a sought-after speaker on economic development/CRA Compliance issues and the federal regulatory compliance matters for US based banks including serving as a panelist for the Federal Reserve Bank. He also is a speaker in urban market conferences such as Information Management Network (IMN), Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), Opal Financial, National Association of Realtors and Novagradac New Markets Tax Credits.
