To celebrate black history month, local publication Ryse Magazine is organizing an event that will bring together black professionals in the Central Florida area to honor trailblazers who paved the way for black businesses.
The event titled Legacy, will be presented by The Alliance of African American Professionals on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center.
The Legacy event will offer plenty of networking opportunities for local businesses and also will feature special remarks from Richmond McCoy, president and chief executive officer of New York-based UrbanAmerica LP, who is well-known in Orlando for buying the DoubleTree Resort Orlando in 2006 and adding $35 million in renovations. The revamped hotel earned UrbanAmerica Hilton Worldwide’s 2009 Hotel Developer of the Year award.
But in addition to the honorees, black organizations such as The African American Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Black Accountants and National Society of Black Engineers will also be in attendance.
